Tim Fellows of Alpha Financial Services is hosting a seminar in March on the topic of protecting your assets in retirement. It would be careless, to say the very least, if you managed to get through to the end of your working life, your assets intact, only to lose them later on to the detriment of your children and grandchildren!
Here’s the invitation.
Tuesday 27th March 2012
Himley Hall, Dudley,West Midlands, DY3 4DR
10.00 am or 2.00 pm
Protecting your assets in retirement
Did you know that if you are a house owner and you have to go into care you may be forced to sell your house to pay the fees?
If you go into a Residential or Nursing Home the Local Authority will carry out a means test to assess your eligibility for financial assistance with their fees. They will look at all of your assets and liabilities, including the value of your house in most circumstances.
If the overall value of your assets exceeds £14,250 (including the value of the house) then you will be required to pay the fees yourself. In most cases this invariably requires the sale of your house in order to pay the fees. This means that there will be less for you to pass on to your children.
So what can you do?
Do nothing and hope for the best – not something as professional advisors we would recommend
Transfer assets to your family – this might sound like a good idea but there are a number of important reasons why this is not a good idea.
Protect your assets in a Trust – this option is becoming increasingly popular as people realise it not only reduces the cost of administering your estate but also protects your assets from residential care fees.
You can find out how to protect your assets in a trust at our FREE seminar on 27 Match 2012. We will be joined by McClures Solicitors who are expert in this field and will be on hand to explain how everything works and to answer any questions. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions.
Feel free to extend the invitation to family or friends who you think might benefit.
Places are limited as we are sharing this with another IFA firm locally, so please email or telephone Tim on 01902 880000 to confirm your plans to attend.
We look forward to seeing you there.
